Jazz in the Valley is a music performance held in Kansas City, MO at the Penn Valley campus of Metropolitan Community College. As part of my research, I visited the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, and in the exhibits I overheard a voiceover in which a musician talked about jazz "making him feel free as a canary." Following that visit, birds became the music, adding a lightness to the overall poster theme. The colors of grey, black and blue serve as a nod to MCC's own colors as the hosting organization.
